We have lift off…
Standing in a dark room on one of nicest days of the week weather-wise? It can only mean one thing. The launch day for this year’s Brighton Hip Hop Festival. A few heads were looking a little jaded after last night’s J-Live gig at the Ocean Rooms - props to everyone that made it down, JL rocked the place hard. Shame the promotion wasn’t on top form though, sure there might have been more people there if there had been more posters up and around town. A lot of gigs in B-town have had slack promotion recently, and some people need to step their game up to get heads through the door.
Anyway, the festival is looking to be the highlight of the hip-hop calendar in the BN1 once more this year, and those that made it down got a little taster of things about to happen. Live performances from Dirty Diggers, Sickness Legion and Enlish went down well, as well as a dope appearance from Dr Badfunk bringing that beatbox flavour. Add to the mix some b-boys, a few writers and a sprinkling of deejays, and festivities were underway.
The live day is now scheduled for JULY 14th at The Level - the grassy area between Elm Grove and St Peter’s Church. The line-up should be announced soon, so as soon as I get word of that, I’ll post some details up. The new HHC magazine, released at the end of the week will have this year’s CD on the front cover, so pick up a copy to get your hands on some of the best music coming out of the city at the moment. It was also announced yesterday that Witchdoctor Wise - My Favourite Button, and Longusto, Koaste and Vecks’ - Its Major are gonna be released on limited edition 7” vinyl in time for the live day, so keep your eyes out for that one.
Anyway - I’ve gotta bounce - got my Gordon Ramsey game-face on this afternoon, and things are starting to heat up in the kitchen… Peace…
